A strong fall storm swept across the Upper Peninsula on Tuesday bringing storm force winds and record setting waves across Lake Superior.

The highest winds were recorded over the open waters of Lake Superior, with a few hurricane force gusts at both Stannard Rock Lighthouse and Granite Island.

If you're not familiar with Stannard Rock, it's a lighthouse on a very small reef 24 miles east of the Keweenaw Peninsula and the most distant lighthouse from land in the entire U.S.

The buoy near Munising, MI recorded the highest wave of any Great Lakes buoy coming in at 28.9 feet!  The previous highest wave on any modern buoy was 27.66 feet back on October 5, 2012 at the Keweenaw Peninsula.
