Parents are on alert -- and Melvindale police are on the lookout -- after a 12-year-old boy reported that someone tried to abduct him.

The boy says he was walking to the bus stop Thursday morning in the area of Palmer and Homestead when the incident happened. He told police he noticed a man on the opposite side of the street who then crossed the street and started chasing the boy.

At the same time, a silver BMW followed both of them. The boy says the man chasing him tried to force him into the car, but he managed to escape.

Police say the suspect is described as a tall black male with a goatee who was wearing a brown hooded sweatshirt and a black jacket. Police are also looking for an older model silver BMW sedan with tinted rear windows.
