MT. CLEMENS, Mich. (WXYZ) — Students protesting outside Mt. Clemens High School want to make sure their voices are heard in the community. They’re also sharing how they feel about their principal Joseph Gibson, who’s contract is not being continued.
“He taught me how to be successful, and learn to talk to people. What to do and not to do as a human being,” says student Dazari Chestang.
Parent Lindsay Halatsis says the decision not to keep principal Gibson will ultimately hurt many students.
“I personally love this man. He has always been an influence on my children,” says Halatsis.
A school board meeting last night resulted in a 6-1 vote to end his employment.
“It’s crazy because of our school board, only 1 member actually works in the school and knows what goes on there,” says student Don Williams.
Another student, Mareyana Betts says, “Mr. Gibson helped me when I was getting bullied and people were messing with me. I could go see him and knew he would be there for me.”
The superinendent would not discuss the matter, only stating the decision was not “personal.”
et, students feel they deserve more answers. “He’s a person that will push you to do everything better and make you better yourself as well” says Chestang.
