More than 50 kids attended the Children’s Hospital of Michigan annual Princess and Superhero party in Dearborn Sunday.

The event is for patients who suffer from severe complex needs and disabilities.

Kids were able to dress-up as their favorite characters and several activities and prizes were given out. Beth Voyles with the hospital says it’s an important time for kids.

"They're not expected to make it to adulthood or live the typical 80 years that you and I are living and so many of these children are left out of events," Voyles says.

"As a physician we always see families at their worst when their kids are in the hospital, when they're under a lot of stress and it's such a beautiful day to see everybody coming together and see everybody happy celebrating," says Doctor Nadia Tremonti.

This is the eighth year the event has been held and the hospital says they continue to see more families come out and participate.
