TROY, Mich. (WXYZ) — Troy police have arrested a Pontiac resident in connection to a robbery at Fifth Third Bank on West Big Beaver Road.

Investigators say the suspect rode the bus to the bank and planned on fleeing the area by bus also.

Richard Philip Cushard, 53, was charged with armed robbery and bank robbery. He was arraigned on Dec. 29 and was denied bond.

The alleged robbery happened Dec. 27 around 1:30 p.m. An officer on patrol in the area found a man who matched the description of the suspect, walking down the street. The officer arrested the man and stolen money was found in his possession, police say.

Investigators say the suspect went into the bank wearing a hoodie and approached a teller demanding money. The suspect then told the teller that he had a gun.

Following the arrest, officers say no gun was found on the suspect.
