GROSSE POINTE FARMS, Mich. (WXYZ) — Grosse Pointe Farms Police say an elderly couple stopped for gas for their Buick Enclave at the Shell station at the corner of Mack & Moross at 8:30 pm on Wednesday, when someone attacked them both with punches and attempted to carjack them.

The suspect allegedly got into the vehicle and demanded the keys.

“The driver’s wife was able to get the keys out of the ignition and hide them, which prevented him from driving away. It also gave time for witnesses to flag down a Detroit Police officer, who chased him down and made an arrest,” says Chief Dan Jensen.

The suspect was arrested before anyone could get seriously hurt. The Chief says the man did not appear to have a weapon.

Police say the driver who was targeted did suffer a minor head injury. Police are currently reviewing surveillance video and say charges could be filed later today or tomorrow.
