Detroit Police have arrested a 29-year-old man suspected in a series of shootings that have gripped a neighborhood in the area of Joy Road and Dexter Avenue for five months.
A special ops unit spotted the suspect running from a shooting scene around 2 a.m. Wednesday.
Police said the suspect ditched a handgun as he was running and he was also armed with an AR-15.
He was arrested and Detroit police waited for a search warrant to enter the suspect's home that is located in the neighborhood of all of the shootings.
At least seven occupied homes were shot up early Wednesday morning, according to Detroit Police Chief James Craig.
The home the suspect shares with an older woman was searched, and included in the items found at the house was a highly toxic substance that a source said may be potassium cyanide.
A relative of the woman said the suspect is like her son and she's raised him since he was a young child after the deaths of his biological parents.
The Detroit Fire Department's Hazmat team responded to the suspect's home, but before they entered the location, the Detroit Police Bomb Squad was brought in to search for possible booby traps.
"I have holes throughout my house," said Judy Brantley whose home was shot up early Wednesday morning.
Brantley was home with her mother and two grandchildren, ages 5-months-old and 4-years-old.
"The good news is, fortunately, no one was ever hurt in any of these attacks," Chief Craig said.
The shooter is said to be responsible for at least six additional shootings since July, including the home of an 84-year-old woman.
It's unclear when the suspect could appear in court on possible charges.
