Taking Action For You: Sinkhole in southwest Detroit gets temporary repair

(WXYZ) - A sinkhole in Southwest Detroit gets a temporary fix after 7 Action News takes action for you.

Severo Gonzalez owns Mexican Village restaurant on Bagley Street. He says he has been getting the run around from the city of Detroit for three weeks.  A delivery truck driver first told him about the sinkhole that's in the alley behind his restaurant.

"It's more than a foot wide and at least 15 feet deep," says Gonzalez.

"We just want this problem addressed and taken care of before something serious does happen," he says.

7 Action News contacted Mayor Bing's office and within one hour crews from the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department were starting to make repairs to the sinkhole.

Crews brought a large metal plate to cover up the hole. City workers believe there's a hole in a sewer line that created the sinkhole. We're told the metal plate is a temporary fix, but they will be making more permanent repairs.

"I'm glad!", says Gonzalez. He says he's really grateful for the help especially with Cinco de Mayo celebrations right around the corner. He wants everyone to be safe.
