(WXYZ) — Target became the latest retailer to announce it would close on Thanksgiving Day.

The company announced Monday that its holiday season will start in October and stretch out longer, so people can shop safely and not worry about missing out on deals that usually come later in the season.

Closing on Thanksgiving is the biggest change, as normally the store would open on Thanksgiving night before continuing on Black Friday.

“The investments we’ve made in our business and our incredible team have enabled us to move with flexibility and speed to meet guests’ changing needs during this global pandemic,” says Target CEO Brian Cornell. “This year more than ever, a joyful holiday will be inseparable from a safe one, and we’re continuing to adjust our plans to deliver ease, value and the joy of the season in a way that only Target can.”

Finally, the company said it is making another 20,000 products, including groceries, available for pickup or delivery.

Last week, Walmart announced it would be closing on Thanksgiving.
