(WXYZ) — September is National Baby Safety Month, and Target is giving people 20 percent off a new car seat, baby stroller or select baby gear when you recycle your old car seat.

This is part of the company's Car Seat Trade-In event, which happens from Sept. 3 - Sept. 13.

All you have to do is bring an old car seat to the Target store near you, trade it in at Guest Service for a coupon, and then save 20%!

According to the company, 11.9 million pounds of car seats have been recycled so far.

Target will accept and recycle all types of car seats, including: infant car seats, convertible car seats, car seat bases, harness or booster car seats, as well as car seats that are expired or damaged.

The company said that materials from the old car seats will be recycled to create new products from Waste Management like pallets, plastic buckets and construction materials.
