The Taylor School District provided free food for four elementary schools last year, and now free breakfast and lunch will be provided for the rest of the school district.

“It was very helpful,” said Mandy Darnell.

Darnell’s daughter was in one for the four schools providing free good last year.

“It was nice, you didn’t have to make lunches they could eat breakfast there she didn’t like eating when she first got up so,” said Darnell.

This is all made possible through a federal grant that the Taylor School District applied for three months ago call SNAP. SNAP, or Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program, aims to help nutrition among low-income families.

Superintendent of Taylor School District Ben Williams tells says the program saves parent on average $700 a year per student, helping parents that may not be able to afford school lunches for their kids.

This is something parents and students can look forward to for along time to come.

“It’s guaranteed for the next four years so it really is a benefit to us certainly for that time and then after that we will re-apply for consideration and again the same metrics will be looked at,” said Williams.
