Teens charged in murder of Uber driver

DETROIT (WXYZ) — Two teens are accused in the brutal slaying of an Uber driver in Detroit.

The Wayne County Prosecutor said a 15-year-old and 17-year-old are charged as adults with Felony Murder.

The victim is identified as Timothy Marcus Perkins, 60, of Southfield.

Friends of Perkins said he drove for the rideshare company to support his hobby as an avid cyclist.

Uber released the following statement: “We are heartbroken by this news and our thoughts are with Timothy’s family and loved ones. We’ll work with law enforcement to help in any way we can with their investigation.”

The grueling details of the January 21st murder were laid out in court documents on Friday.

Prosecutors said Perkins was attacked by the teens near Elmer and St. Lawrence in Southwest Detroit.

It was also revealed in court that Perkins was attacked, beaten with a hammer, and stabbed multiple times in the back and torso which caused his death.

The teens have been charged with adult First Degree Felony Murder, Carjacking, and Armed Robbery.

A statement from the prosecutor's office said the teens will appear for a Probable Cause Conference on Feb. 10th before judge Ronald Giles.
