According to a survey by the National Retail Federation, the only two ways to celebrate Halloween that are showing growth this year are pumpkin carving and home decorating.

We asked metro Detroiters for their Top 7 alternatives to trick-or-treating, and they were able to scare up a pretty fun list.

No. 7 – Visit a haunted drive

You can go on a haunted Drive, like the one at Domino's Farm in Ann Arbor. Stay in your car while actors from Ann Arbor Civic Theatre and Dexter Community Players act out three Halloween scenes and offer up some surprises.

No. 6 – Halloween Arts & Crafts

There's never a bad time for arts & crafts. From painting, drawing and coloring to collages, you'll keep the kids busy this Halloween and have memories to hold on to.

No. 5 – Deliver Halloween Gift Baskets

Fifth on our list is delivering Halloween gift baskets. You can take spooky gift baskets to families in your network and ensure kids stay safe while enjoying all of the sweet treats they've been looking forward to all year.

No. 4 – Neighborhood Costume Parade

Here, you can get all the kids dressed up and let them show off their favorite characters. It's just as much fun to see as it is to be seen!

No. 3 – Halloween Scavenger Hunt

You can engage the whole family with an at-home Halloween scavenger hunt. Hide the treats and maybe even a toy or two inside and around the home and provide hints to kick off the search.

No. 2 – Halloween Movie Themes Night

Pop some popcorn and wind down with a Halloween movie night, it’s second on our list! You can go animated for the younger kids with movies like Paranorman!

No. 1 – Trunk or Treat Party

Number one is a trunk or treat party. The trick-or-treaters parade from car to car collecting candy, showing off their costumes.

And some families will do a mix of both. Maybe a little less trick-or-treating and adding a celebration at home.
