Many folks have just started putting out Halloween decorations.

For one Waterford family, this holiday means more than just passing out candy – it was their late daughter’s favorite celebration.

Unfortunately, this week, thieves stole some of their decorations right off the lawn on Crescent Lake Road.

“It took me a long time to get back into the Halloween spirit,” said Diana Rodriguez.

For Rodriguez, Halloween has been a fun event for her sons, and daughter Elvia who died suddenly from stage four lung cancer in 2016 at the age of 40.

Since then, the family has not put up decorations.

“Started all over again for my children and my grandkids,” she said. “It’s hard. We are just doing it one day at a time, so when this happened it broke us more down.”

On Monday, Rodriguez noticed at least five decorations stolen off her front yard. Many of these items have been in the family for a long time, some as long as 25 years.

“It was hard to lose those pieces,” Rodriguez said.

Many of the decorations were handmade by Rodriguez’s husband.

“For somebody to come here and just come in and take what is not their’s... I can’t understand that,” she said.

Diana wanted to take all the decorations down but decided to put them all in the backyard. This way, she was able to continue their special celebration, especially for Elvia’s kids.

“I think that’s what my daughter would want me to do,” Rodriguez added. “Brings us happiness and we haven’t had that for a while.”

The Rodriguez family wants the stolen items back.

If you know the crooks who did them, tell them they can bring it back – no questions asked.
