What happens when a Spartan and a Wolverine get married?

"By the end of the game, she is literally on one side of the couch like clutching a pillow and I was on the other side of the couch just screaming at the TV," said Amanda Vought.

Meet Dan and Amanda Vought, they live in a house divided in Shelby Township. Dan is a Michigan fan, and Amanda is a Spartan.

They met five years ago when they both stood up at a wedding -- they were paired together because their friends thought it would be funny to see the rivalry.

“It’s the ultimate irony that I ended up with, not only standing up in that wedding with, but marrying a Spartan,” said Dan.

Rivalry runs deep

Amanda went to Michigan State University, and although Dan didn't go to the University of Michigan, it’s been a long family tradition to attend the games and root for the team.

Dan admits he is a die hard fan, and won’t even let Amanda bring MSU memorabilia into the home.

"I would never be able to be with a Spartan version of myself," said Dan.

Amanda acknowledged his fandom in their wedding vows last year and even walked down the aisle to the U of M fight song, “Hail to the Victors!”

Dan has only missed three Michigan home games in 20 years -- including the infamous fumbled snap in 2015 when he was in Ohio for a wedding.

He was at a bar alone before the reception when the play led to a Spartan victory and one of the worst days of his life.

"I jump and I'm in this bar by myself and I rupture my Achilles," he said.

Dan had to have surgery and wear a cast -- blue of course.

Amanda says if Michigan wins tomorrow she loses -- but if MSU wins -- well, she still loses…

"I just think I understand the implications of Michigan State beating Michigan, because that just means it will destroy our weekend and I have to deal with that."

Caveat: Dan is also very superstitious. For the interview with WXYZ, he wore his lucky hat and jersey, which he normally only wears on game day -- so if Michigan loses – he’s got a hunch why.
