It seems you can't go a block in metro Detroit without finding a coffee shop. The big national chains get a lot of attention, but coffee connoisseurs know local shops can more than hold their own.

But with all of the options, how do you know where to settle in for the best cup of joe?

No matter what your reason, 7 Action News viewers say you can't go wrong with any of these seven coffee shops.

#7 Cultivate Coffee and Tap House - Ypsilanti

Number 7 is Cultivate Coffee and Tap House in Ypsilanti. The coffee and tap house uses their top-notch coffee to support the senior community and other special causes like access to food and healthcare.

#6 Great Lakes Coffee Roasting Co. - Multiple locations

Customers say Great Lakes Coffee Roasting Co. in Midtown Detroit is, well, great! It comes in at #6. They serve both coffee and brew. It's a great place to get some work done or enjoy conversation while sipping on coffee proudly roasted in Detroit.

#5 Bean & Leaf Cafe - Royal Oak

Number five is Royal Oak's Bean and Leaf Cafe. At Bean & Leaf, coffee and more than 40 kinds of loose tea are the stars. Owner Jay Woo says Bean and Leaf is a place where community groups have found a home.

Customers say that's because it's a place where the baristas know the people who stop in for their morning coffee.

"The relationship that you feel like you build here because it's like feels like a small business kind of home,”’ says customer Jennifer Kilbourn.

#4 Dessert Oasis - Multiple locations

Dessert oasis in Royal Oak, Detroit and Rochester comes in our 4th spot. The coffee gets high marks, but there are also 30 kinds of cheesecakes made from family recipes and crepes made to order while you wait.

There is live music, too! Owner Nathan Hamood says that live music is a big part of what they do.

“At our Rochester store, actually, we do live music every night. We're hoping to scale this one up to pretty much every night as well soon,” says Hamood.

#3 Plymouth Coffee Bean - Plymouth

Plymouth Coffee Bean is number three. The owners say it is Michigan’s longest running independent coffee shop. They also offer live music in a cozy atmosphere. Customers say it's like sitting in your friend's living room.. with great coffee.

#2 Espresso Elevado - Plymouth

Our runner-up Espresso Elevado is a small batch coffee roaster in downtown Plymouth. Customers aren't the only ones raving about the coffee..their Route 606 espresso blend won a bronze medal in a national competition.

#1 Common Grace Coffee Co. - Dearborn

And the number one coffee shop you voted for is Common Grace Coffee Company in Dearborn. Named Dearborn's 2017 startup of the year by the Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce, Common Grace wants to be common ground for all of Dearborn. The goal is to bring people together through the love of coffee.
