DETROIT (WXYZ) — An area-wide manhunt for suspected killer Kenyel Brown came to an end when police say he shot himself in the head. Police surrounded the 40-year-old in the backyard of an Oak Park home Monday afternoon.
He is listed in grave condition, according to a Detroit spokesperson. Police were tipped off by an employee at an adult bookstore on Eight Mile Road.

A manager at the store asked to remain anonymous out of fear of retaliation.
"The janitor came up to the counter and said this is who this is... he did it really on the loud side," the manager said behind the counter. "The guy heard him and went out the door and literally ran out the door and ran across Eight Mile."
She also said Brown was previously kicked out of the store.
"The janitor also recognized him because he's been kicked out twice before for smoking drugs," the manager said.

Brown has been charged in connection with two River Rouge murders and a non-fatal shooting, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office announced Tuesday.
Brown was apprehended by multiple law enforcement agencies on Feb. 24 in connection to six killings across metro Detroit.
Pastor "Brother" Joe Hicks with Outcry Youth and Street Ministry said he ran into Brown and gave him food and clothing. Hicks said Brown was certainly on drugs and suffered from mental health issues.
"Sometimes he just seemed very agitated," Hicks said. "He would start talking to himself out loud and that's when my wife Lisa would go over and talk to him and help him out."
