(WXYZ) — The deadline for the Open Enrollment Period is Tuesday and those looking to get a health plan through the federal government or private insurance will need to enroll before midnight to get health insurance for next year.

Priority Health has several tips for those who are looking to enroll.

First, the healthcare provider said to think carefully about what you or your family needs. Things to think about include plans for specific prescription drugs, a possible life change, any surgeries and more.

Next, try to understand the plan's network, and make sure any preferred physicians are in network, as well as the hospitals and facilities you use.

Also, consider getting a Health Savings Account (HSA). The HSA can help you budget and save for future medical expenses, especially if you have a high-deductible plan.

One of the most important items is to not miss the deadline, as going without health insurance for even a short time can be expensive. Healthcare.gov says a three-day hospital stay can run more than $30,000.

Finally, if health insurance is still too expensive, you may be eligible for coverage under Medicaid or a Healthy Michigan Plan from the state. You can check at Michigan.gov/MIBridges for information on that, or use a tool from Priority Health to check to see if you qualify for a subsidy. Just visit mypriority.com to check.
