DEARBORN, Mich. (WXYZ) — Exit lanes to Michigan Avenue are closed after a train derailed in Dearborn early Wednesday morning.

On Oct. 28 around 5:45 a.m., troopers were dispatched to the eastbound I-94 exit lanes to Michigan Avenue and Wyoming Avenue to help with a road closure and derailment.

According to MSP, a train car became derailed over I-94 near Wyoming Avenue and Dearborn police headed to check on it. Troopers arrived on scene and saw a flat car hanging over the exit lanes (underpass) to Michigan/Wyoming, having destroyed part of the bridge.

Out of precaution, eastbound and westbound I- 94 were closed temporarily before CSX railroad determined it was safe. CSX advises it will be three to five hours before their equipment will be available to correct the derailment.

MSP says once CSX's equipment becomes available, I-94 in both directions will need to be closed.

Right now, the exit lanes to Michigan/Wyoming are closed.

No word yet on when the freeway will reopen.
