The 2016 Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix is adding more races to an already packed weekend, as the Trans Am Series is making its return to the Motor City for the first time in nearly 15 years.

The racing series celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, and will host two invitational races on Saturday, June 4 and Sunday, June 5.

“We’re excited to bring back some history, some heritage and even more on-track excitement with the return of the Trans Am Series to the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix,” Bud Denker, chairman of the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix said in a release. “Our racing fans will be thrilled to see the competition between Chevrolet, Ford, Dodge, BMW, Aston Martin and more in the Trans Am field all weekend long and we’re honored to bring back the tradition of the Trans Am Motor City 100.”

The Trans Am Series joins the IndyCar Series, IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship and the SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks presented by TRAXXAS for eight races in the action-packed weekend.
