TROY, Mich. — The American Red Cross needs more blood donors and the City of Troy is asking for your help.
Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood, but supply can not always meet demand because only 3 percent of eligible people donate blood yearly, according to American Red Cross.
To help out the national crisis, the City of Troy is hosting a week-long blood drive to attract more citizens to donate blood. The week-long blood drive will take place July 22 - 26 at different locations throughout the city.
“The blood needs of our community can only be met by support from volunteer blood donors,” says City of Troy Community Affairs Director Cindy Stewart. “Donations are critical for burn victims, open-heart surgeries, some chemotherapy and leukemia patients, and disaster relief. One donation can help save the lives of up to three people.”
Appointments can be made by calling 313-300-9617 or 248-524-1147, visiting RedCrossBlood.org or by using the free Blood Donor App. Walk-ins are available but a valid ID or Red Cross Donor Card is required before donating.
Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh more than 110 pounds, and be in good general health.
