A 71-year-old Troy woman was hospitalized when a man she knew hit her with his car in Rochester Hills. According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, it happened just before 7 p.m. Saturday at the Moose Lodge on Livernois in Rochester Hills.

Deputies were called after a report of a woman who had fallen and hurt her leg in the parking lot, but the fire department said the injury may have been caused by an assault.

According to deputies, the man was in the driver's seat of his SUV with the driver's door still open, and the woman was standing near the opening of the driver's door between the car. That's when the 66-year-old Troy man accelerated in reverse, knocking her to the ground and possibly running her over.

She told police his name and deputies were able to arrest the driver at the scene.

The man was lodged at the Oakland County Jail on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing serious injury, and the woman is in the hospital in stable condition with serious injuries.
