1 killed, another hurt in shooting at Cedar Village apartment complex near Michigan State University

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WXYZ() - Police are searching for a suspect in the fatal shooting of a Michigan State University student in the Cedar Village apartment complex.

Another student was injured in the shooting and was treated at Sparrow Hospital and released.

The shooting happened shortly after 8:45 pm Friday in the 200 block of Cedar Street.

Police say the two residents of the apartment were found suffering from gun shot wounds. Both were taken to Sparrow Hospital for treatment.

Police have not commented on the nature of their injuries or on a possible motive in the case. They will only say that this does not appear to be a random act.

The suspect is described as an African American man. He is believed to be between 20 and 25-years-old. He was wearing tan pants, a black coat and black shoes or boots at the time of the incident.
