Two people were shot and killed overnight during an ambush at a bonfire party in Detroit.

It happened around midnight near Harry Laker Park, which is on Central Avenue near West Warren on the city's west side.

Police say two people were shot to death after someone opened fire, possibly using an AK-47, on a gathering in the park. Police say that about 30 shots were fired from a rifle, and witnesses descried a chaotic scene where people were taking cover behind and inside cars. Andrea Gardner, 25, was shot in the head, and died at the scene.

A 25-year-old man was taken to Henry Ford Hospital and later died.

Officers say the suspect may have left the gathering earlier in the night before returning to fire the shots. Witnesses tell WXYZ there were no previous altercations before the shooting.

No arrests have been made. Witnesses say a black Dodge Charger pulled up immediately after the shooting, but it's unclear if it's connected with the crime.

Police are asking anyone with information on this shooting to call them immediately.
