(WXYZ) — Two Michigan schools are taking action after weather has forced several snow days in the district. The Frankenmuth School District and the Ovid-Elsie School District are canceling winter breaks in order to avoid making up days at the end of the year.

In a press release from Frankenmuth Schools, Superintendent Adele Martin said that they will be canceling winter break on Feb. 22 and Feb. 25 due to the extended school days.

Martin said that Wednesday marked their 13th snow day. Six of those days are forgiven automatically, which leaves seven days left. They could apply for a waiver to forgive three more of the days, but that leaves four behind, meaning they would have to add four days.

"Keeping students safe during bad weather is our first priority," Martin said in the release. "Obviously, there is a worry about the extension of our school year into late June."

On top of the action, Frankenmuth has added a half day on Friday, April 19, and with those days, the last day of school would be on Monday, June 17.

WILX reports that Ovid-Elsie School District canceled its mid-winter break after its 15th snow day of the year.
