Here's what metro Detroit hospitals are asking to be donated amid COVID-19 outbreak

(WXYZ) — Hospitals across metro Detroit are asking the community to donate gear to help protect health care workers and patients from the spread of COVID-19.

We have a round-up of the hospitals that are seeking donations and how you can donate them at each hospital below.

University of Michigan Hospitals

New or unused:

  • Disposable face masks
  • N95 masks, sometimes called respirators
  • Eye protection including face shields and safety goggles
  • Disposable gowns
  • Disposable gloves, especially non-latex
  • Disposable surgical caps
  • Disposable foot covers
  • Wipes: bleach or antimicrobial
  • Hand sanitizer

More specialized items:

  • PAPRs (powered air-purifying respirators) and PAPR hoods
  • Nasal testing swabs
  • Viral testing kits

You can donate them, Saturday, March 21 and Sunday, March 22, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the donation center at 2800 Plymouth Road, Ann Arbor, 48109 which is set back from Plymouth Road and Huron Parkway. Donors will not need to get out of their cars if they prefer not to. Donors who are not feeling well should wait until they feel better to donate.

Beaumont

Donation bins will be located outside the Beaumont Service Center main entrance through Saturday, March 28. Community members will be able to drive up and place needed supplies and materials in the bins 24/7.

The Beaumont Service Center is at 26901 Beaumont Blvd, in Southfield. This is the only location where Beaumont will accept COVID-19 donations.

Most-Needed Personal Protective Equipment:

  • New or unused disposable face masks
  • N-95 mask (sometimes called respirators)
  • Eye protection including face shields and safety goggles
  • Disposable gowns
  • Disposable gloves (especially non-latex)
  • Disposable surgical caps
  • Disposable foot covers
  • Wipes: bleach or anti-microbial
  • Home-sewn reusable masks
  • PAPRs (powered air purifying respirators) and PAPR hoods
  • Nasal testing swabs
  • Viral testing kits

Items Beaumont will not accept at this time:

  • 3-D printed ventilator parts
  • Food
  • Blankets

Henry Ford Health System

Donations of new and unused medical supplies can be dropped off at shipping and receiving docks at Henry Ford’s corporate offices in Detroit and Henry Ford Allegiance Health in Jackson. Drop-off times are 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Sundays, beginning March 22, and 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday – Friday.

Oakland County

Beginning Monday, Oakland County will accept donations of masks (all types), face shields, surgical gowns, surgical gloves, no-touch thermometers, and respirators at the Oakland County Farmers Market, 2350 Pontiac Lake Road in Waterford, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

“We need more equipment,” Coulter said. “If you or your business has this equipment and you’re not currently an essential business that needs to be open – maybe you’re a dentist’s office whose affected by the Governor’s order yesterday (Friday) or maybe you’re another kind of facility that has access to this equipment - we need it. I want to encourage you to contact our Emergency Operations Center.”

Oakland County will pick up any donated equipment on the list for those who are unable to drop off donations at the Farmers Market

St. Joseph Mercy Health System

Due to the outpouring of support we have received from community members, we have set up donation centers at several of our hospitals for those who have expressed interest in donating items. Suggested unopened items include :

  • PAPRs
  • Regular Masks
  • N95 Masks
  • Face shields
  • Gowns
  • Hot Glue Sticks
  • Surgical Caps/Protective Caps
  • Eyeglass shields/goggles
  • Nasal Testing Swabs
  • M4 Viral Media
  • Lysol or Clorox Wipes
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Transparency Sheets

Donation Center hours will be 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. daily (Hours may change due to staffing).

St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor (Towsley Health Building, Catherine’s House Dress for Success entrance)- 5361 McAuley Dr., Ypsilanti
St. Joseph Mercy Livingston (Main Entrance) - 620 Byron Rd, Howell
St. Mary Mercy Livonia, St. Joe's Oakland and St. Joe's Chelsea are working to also set up Donation Centers. More information will be shared for these locations when available.

*NOTE: Hospitals are not asking people to donate homemade face-masks or 3D-printed ventilators*
