DETROIT (WXYZ) — The search for suspected killer Kenyel Brown led local, state and federal law enforcement partners to Highland Park on Sunday.

Police received a tip Brown may be hiding out in an apartment building on Stevens Street near the Detroit Border.

"We had information that we believe he’s frequented this location. We know he’s stayed here in the past," said Detroit Police Commander Darin Szilagy.

Detroit Police, Michigan State Police and the U.S. Marshals were on scene, blocking off a portion of Stevens Street in hopes of finally bringing Brown into custody; he's been wanted since January when he was charged with the double murders of Kimberly Green and Dorian Patterson.

Since then, police have tied Brown to four other homicides in the metro Detroit area; another homicide in River Rougein December and the fatal shooting of a man in Highland Park on Feb. 18. Detroit Police have named Brown as a Person of Interest in the fatal shooting of Detroit graphic designer Amir Thaxton on Feb. 20 on E. 8 Mile near Gratiot in Detroit, and the fatal shooting of a 36-year-old man on Feb. 22 on Minnesota near John R. in Detroit.

Brown was recently featured on Detroit's Most Wanted.

“We asked the neighbors to shelter in place, fortunately everyone was cooperative, but we did not catch our man," Commander Szilagy said after the apartment building was cleared on Sunday.

"We believe he’s still in the local area. We’ve been getting sightings, we’ve been getting tips that he’s still walking around, maybe staying in vacant dwellings," said Aaron Garcia with the U.S. Marshals.

The last known vehicle Brown may have been traveling in, which Detroit Police think he took from shooting victim Amir Thaxton, was recently impounded, according to Action News sources.

Garcia told Action News they don't believe Brown has much money and is likely traveling on foot. He should be considered armed and dangerous.

In the case of Thaxton's death, Detroit Police believe robbery may have been a motive. Police are still investigating motives in the other homicides they believe Brown is linked to.

Brown is 5-foot-8 and weighs about 170-180 pounds.

Anyone with information about Brown’s whereabouts is urged to contact U.S. Marshals at 313-234-5656 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak-Up.

"We need people that are with him right now just to please make that call," Garcia said.

The U.S. Marshals are offering $10,000 for information leading to Brown's arrest.
