(WXYZ) — Members of the UAW are back on the job at General Motors plants after ratifying a new contract on Friday.

Third shift workers at the Detroit-Hamtramck plant reported to work Sunday night for the first time since the 40-day strike began.

The Orion Assembly plant will resume work with the first shift on Monday, Oct. 28.

More than 57 percent of the UAW members at GM voted in favor of the new four-year contract.

The new agreement will keep the Detroit-Hamtramck plant open after it was scheduled to close in January.

The union will begin negotiating a new contract with Ford next.
