The University of Michigan is focused on the science behind drones.

A netted facility has been built on campus that looks like a batting cage, but is actually a classroom for drones.

"What we are doing is a lot of exciting flight testing for education and research, said Ella Atkins, a professor of aerospace engineering and the associate director of the university's robotics program.

Atkins is excited to show of M-Air, an outdoor drone lab that opened three weeks ago.

She says drones have become an important piece of technology when it comes to gathering all sorts of information.
