Parents love posting about their children on social media, and there’s nothing wrong with that -- it just comes down to how they do it, at least that's what the kids say.
According to news release from the University of Michigan, research finds children sometimes want a say in what their parents are posting about them online.
The university says it asked 331 pairs of parents and children what info should and shouldn’t be shared on social sites when it comes to the children’s lives.
Of the green light topics for posts, the kids -- ages 10 to 17 -- said achievements, praise, special occasions, hobbies and family trips were usually OK to put on social media. Generally, anything positive.
The no-nos: baby photos and stories (but, come on, you were so cute), pictures of friends or their significant others and bad behavior or punishments.
Something that may be a bit surprising from the study, both parents and children reported that the amount of information sharing was "about right" when it comes to posts about kids.
The study also found that parents tend to post about their children roughly every few weeks.
Researchers suggest parents should always be mindful of what they’re putting out there, and if there's any doubt, just ask.
