Team wants to 3D print art for visually impaired

It’s a new effort to help the visually impaired experience art.

A team of people is working to recreate art that the blind can touch and feel. The campaign is called Unseen Art—and it involves 3D printing artworks.

The project aims to bring artists, 3D makers and people who are visually impaired together to help produce art that can be felt.

The 3D models of the paintings would be free and printable to anywhere there is access to a 3D printer, according to the team's website. Think libraries, universities or homes.

Unseen Art's main goal is to create equal access for art globally, according to their fundraising page.

The team—from Finland—is trying to raise $30,000 on Indiegogo to help create their platform, hold gallery shows and make art more accessible to all.

Video posted to the Indiegogo page shows a woman experiencing the Mona Lisa work for the first time. She said, "This is really waking up my curiosity..."
