(WXYZ) — In tonight's 7 UpFront report we're taking a closer look at the efforts to ramp up COVID-19 vaccinations.

We're being joined by Wayne County Chief Health Strategist Dr. Mouhanad Hammami to talk about their push in multiple cities across the county this week.

You can see the full interview in the video player above.

"So far we have been operating against the odds, we have accomplished a lot. I think our biggest accomplishment so far is that we have done most of the educators in Wayne County," Hammami says. "All those that wanted the vaccine received it and that is good news, especially with the schools opening."

"We shifted our attention to helping our health systems in addressing our senior population 65 and older and this is our first week in addressing those," he continued. "We wanted to approach it in a little bit of a different way where we are taking the vaccine to the communities and, specifically, where our senior centers are. So our partnership with cities and municipalities and community centers was very valuable. It wasn't smooth. There were some challenges, and mostly it was maintaining the scheduling and the capacity to schedule our seniors, but so far we started on Tuesday and today, with tomorrow as our final day this week, everything is going very smoothly."
