(WXYZ) — In tonight's 7 UpFront segment we're taking a closer look at where the country is heading now that we have a new president in the White House.

We're being joined by Oakland University Professor of Political Science Dave Dulio to discuss where we are and where we are going.

"While the speech didn't have a line in it that is likely to be remembered 20 or 50 years from now, it was a good speech. It was full of lofty rhetoric and I think that was appropriate for the occasion and the message of unity is a really good fit for the times in which we are living," Dulio says. "The proof will be in the pudding though. The unity will come not from words but from actions and actions in a bipartisan manner, from both Democrats and Republicans in the months and years ahead."

"Unless there are major changes in how the US Senate does their business, and those are still on the table, but unless those rules changes that would, for lack of a better term, do away with the tradition of a legislative filibuster," he says. "Unless that rule is thrown out the window, it's going to take Democrats and Republicans compromising on important issues in order to get something done."

"The first few days and even weeks into the Biden Administration, not even into the 100 days will tell us a lot about how the next two or four years are going to go," Dulio says.
