(WXYZ) — Vice President Mike Pence will be the keynote speaker at the 33rd Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference on Mackinac Island later this month.

Pence will be the first sitting vice president to attend the conference, which takes place at the Grand Hotel on Sept. 20-22.

According to the Michigan Republican Party, the event brings together Conservative leaders from across the country.

“It is a tremendous honor that Vice President Mike Pence chose to attend this year’s Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference, and it shows the Trump administration’s commitment to our state.” said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. "Michiganders are thankful for President Trump’s ‘America First’ agenda and the prosperity it has brought back to our state. Michigan Republicans look forward to hosting the Vice President and hearing the administration’s vision for the future of our nation.”

This is the vice president's third stop in the state this year. He spoke to the Detroit Economic Club just last month, and in April, he toured a Ford plant in Dearborn.
