DETROIT (WXYZ) — A vigil was held Saturday for a 19-year-old man from Detroit who went missing last week and was found dead Friday evening.

Darius Jones Jr. was last seen around 4 p.m. on June 21 in the 11800 block of Elmdale on Detroit's east side. His body was found wrapped in carpet in a vacant house on June 26 around 8:15 p.m. on that same street.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner confirmed with 7 Action News the death was ruled a homicide.

At the vigil, relatives took turns sharing memories as they grieved a tremendous loss. They’re also asking how something like this could happen.

“You all knew that was my little brother. Why didn’t you contact me. You knew who my family is. It was somebody who didn’t have no love for me," said Eastside IVO, Jones Jr.'s brother.

Relatives say Jones Jr. was kind, thoughtful and loving; someone who brought people together. Now, those same relatives are praying his killer is found and arrested quickly.

“I want justice for my grandson. I was justice for my grandson. He’s a loving caring person. Not always put together but loved his family," said Felicia Hicks, Jones Jr.'s grandmother.

A GoFundMe page was set up by the family to help with funeral costs.

Police are still investigating the homicide. Anyone with information is asked to please call Detroit Police Department Homicide Section at 313-596-2260 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak Up.
