DETROIT (WXYZ) — A Detroit family mourned the loss of a loved one Saturday evening at the same location she was fatally struck by a vehicle the day before.

The vigil, held for 60-year-old Brenda Owens, took place at Greenfield and Joy Road about 24 hours after she was involved in a hit-and-run crash that took her life. The former nurse just got her nails done when she was crossing the street to a nearby store around 7:35 p.m. Friday. That's when a vehicle that was turning north on Greenfield from Joy struck Owens, as she was crossing the street.

"She was struck underneath his truck. He got out and pulled her and jumped in the car and pulled off," said Delana Owens, Brenda's daughter.

"For someone to mow my sister down like a dog in the street — that is not right," said Angela Owens, Brenda's younger sister.

The vehicle is described as a 4-door gray utility truck, possibly a Chevy Silverado, with two tool boxes in the bed.

As the family mourns their loss, they also make a passionate plea to the suspect driver.

"You left her, that was wrong. That was was wrong just leave my momma like that," Delana Owens said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detroit Police Fatal Squad at 313-596-2280, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak Up.
