A vigil brought out dozens of people in Pontiac to remember the life of a young father.

Thirty-year-old Trumaine Walker was gunned down in front of his two young daughters on Tuesday night.  It happened near the intersection of Barkell St. and Markle Ave.

The 27-year-old suspect is in custody.

Family and friends of Walker said he was not the intended target.

"He was loved by everybody, a family man, all he wanted was to take care of his babies, take care of home,” said Shameka Williams, a family friend of Walker.

She said Walker was a good man and not involved with the wrong crowd.

"They took somebody away from a family, from his kids that won't be able to see their father no more, won't be able to grow up,” said Williams.

At the vigil, community groups and pastors shared their messages, upset with the amount of violence in Pontiac.

"A very deadly year this year, just too many homicides going on, people need to speak up,” said Rahim Harris, who runs the website, Pontiac Unsolved Crimes.

"We can make a difference, it's about us finally stepping up and making our voices heard and encouraging the people - if you make a difference in yourself, you will see a change in your community,” said Cadarie Norton, a local pastor.

A GoFundMe accounthas been set up to help the Walker family.
