Warren mayor fighting to protect seniors

Several law enforcement agencies are teaming up to fight crimes against seniors.

Warren Mayor Jim Fouts is spearheading a senior task force and is going after criminals who target senior citizens, not just in his city, but throughout the area.

"They take advantage of our most trusting individuals," said Mayor Fouts.

That's why he creating a senior task force at the Warren Police Department.

Mayor Fouts said there are many examples of elderly homeowners getting scammed by criminals posing as utility workers or contractors.

"Bottom line is, we have a pattern and it's not just in Warren. It's in all the surrounding cities," said Mayor Fouts.

The new task force is meant to exchange information between police from neighboring communities, in hopes of catching criminals.

The task force is made of representatives from:

  • Warren 
  • Roseville
  • Hazel Park
  • Madison Heights
  • Center line
  • Sterling Heights
  • Shelby Township
  • Troy 
  • Macomb County Sheriff's Department
  • Michigan Department of Corrections

"We will meet with top people from a number of cities and then we will determine what pattern, what kind of people they are targeting and then we can go after them, especially when we have all these cities involved," said Mayor Fouts.

The task force will meet at the Warren Police Department every Tuesday and Wednesday.
