WASHTENAW COUNTY, Mich. (WXYZ) — The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a detailed email scam for businesses.

Unknown suspects reportedly send an email to an employee pretending to be their boss, requesting the employee purchase gifts or Google cards for the company using a company credit card or the employee's personal credit card assuring the employee they would be reimbursed by the company.

The suspects request the employee to photograph the back of the purchased cards and text or email the photographs and receipts for the purchases to unknown phone numbers and email addresses.

Money has been defrauded from several companies in Washtenaw County.

The sheriff's office says to confirm and verify all email requests to make purchases with company or personal credit cards.
