When will your power be restored? DTE Energy provides update on outages

DTE Energy provided an update on the massive power outage following the high winds that whipped through metro Detroit. More than 515,000 customers remain without power in the area.

The power restoration process is expected to take multiple days, according to DTE Electric President Trevor Lauer.

DTE Energy is aiming for 90 percent power restoration expected by Sunday. WATCH FULL UPDATE HERE:

Crews are working 16-hour shifts around the lock to restore power. Crews from Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee, New York and Pennsylvania arrived in Michigan to help with the restoration effort.

Nearly 800,000 customers were affected by the outages. 

DTE Energy reports that this is the "largest weather event" in DTE's history.

The weather caused more than 9,000 downed power lines.  

Consumers Energy reports that about 100,000 of their customers are still without power. 

As for building closures, the Macomb County Administration Building and 33rd District Court in Woodhaven is closed today. 

More than 200 schools are also closed across metro Detroit today. 

Warming centers:

  • Belleville High School located at 501 W. Columbia Avenue in Belleville
  • Costick Center located at 28600 Eleven Mile in Farmington Hills can be used as a warming center from March 9 through March 12 (7 a.m. to 11 p.m.)
  • Kennedy Memorial Building in Lincoln Park
  • Redford Community Center is open until 8 p.m. 
  • Warren Community Center
