Three people were injured when the tube they were riding on crashed into the back of a pontoon boat Sunday evening on White Lake in Oakland County. Two were teens and the other, a 30-year-old woman.

The mother of one of the teens, who doesn’t want us to use her name, says there has been some false information put out on social media.

“It was a freak accident," she said. "The tube came around and hit the back of the pontoon and they went off the tube. They were shaken up and scared. They were conscious. Everyone was ok.”

The driver of the boat, Mike D (he only wants his first name to be used) says he’s owned the boat only two years, and was turning left to come into shore when the tube swung right.

The mother says, “He’s a mess about this. There’s been a lot of accusations and that’s not fair.”

Police responded and took the three involved in the incident to the hospital. They were treated and released with only bumps and bruises. The boat driver says he was not drinking.

“I had three different breathalyzers, plus a sobriety and I passed them all," he said. "That’s why I’m not in custody.”

He also has this important message for everyone out on the water this holiday week: “Tubing’s fun, but on a crowded day it shouldn’t be done," he said. "And just always keep aware because accidents happen. You never know.”
