DETROIT (WXYZ) — A 35-year-old Waterford man is facing charges after a fatal car crash that killed his wife.

Prosecutors say that on Feb. 22, Detroit police responded to a car crash that occurred on Wyoming Avenue near Plymouth Road in Detroit.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a vehicle that had been traveling southbound on Wyoming.

Medics at the scene transported Michael Blakeman's wife, 32-year-old Angelina Melnikova-Blakeman, of Russia, to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. Officials say she and Blakeman had recently married at the time of her death.

Prosecutors say Blakeman was allegedly driving his vehicle at a high rate of speed when he lost control, left the roadway and struck utility poles before crashing into another vehicle that was traveling southbound on Wyoming.

Blakemen was allegedly driving while under the influence of drugs.

He has been charged with Second Degree Murder, Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death and Reckless Driving Causing Death.
