DETROIT (WXYZ) — The Wayne County Prosecutor has released a list of uncredible officers who have had a history of misconduct in the past. These misdeeds now prevent untruthful officers from testifying in court cases.
Known as the Giglio-Brady list, it outlines the names of the officers and their misconduct.

7 Action News Investigator Ross Jones first began looking into this story back in April of 2020. He uncovered that suspected criminals were going uncharged in Detroit, but not because prosecutors didn't believe a crime was committed. It was due to the fact that the officers involved in the case had a history of lying.
Last October, Chief James Craig issued a directive telling officers if they lie they would be terminated - which led to the 7 Action News investigation.
“If cases are being dismissed because of a history—even if it’s one lie—a history of sustained misconduct,” Craig said, “Then how can we continue to allow that officer to function in the capacity of a police officer?”
Last November, the Detroit Police Officers Association pushed back against Craig’s memo, filing an unfair labor practices complaint against the department after Craig announced that cops who lie will be fired.
Over a span of months, 7 Action News attempted repeatedly to determine the number of officers currently on the force with sustained allegations of false statements, but city officials at the time said the cost to do so would be thousands of dollars.
According to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, it was acknowledged that some criminal cases did not proceed because of an officer's untruthfulness.

“Last October we contacted all local Police Chiefs, representatives from the Wayne County Sheriff’s, Michigan State Police and Federal agencies. We asked for a list of their current and former officers that have committed offenses spelled out in the Giglio case for offenses involving theft, dishonesty, fraud, false statement, bias, and bribery. These are crimes that can be considered by fact finders in a trial when credibility is being assessed. In addition, our assistant prosecutors are charged with letting defense attorneys know when an officer on their witness list for a case had Giglio issues or concerns.”
“Because trials will begin again mid-August and September, we thought it was important to send this out to our prosecutors and defense attorneys. There are currently 35 officers on the list. We are taking the additional step of releasing the list to the public because in an era of criminal justice reform, it just makes sense. We will repeat this process quarterly and expect to release an updated list in September.”
