The Wayne State faculty administrating building is being checked after an employee was diagnosed with Legionnaire's disease.
University officials say while it is very unlikely that the employee contracted the disease from campus, the building will be checked for a potential source through an "abundance of caution."
The employee has been placed under a doctor's care.
Legionnaire's disease is not transmitted via person-to-person contact in a public setting and is a freshwater-borne bacterium.
The disease is often associated with large or complex water systems found in hospitals, hotels and cruise ships.
Common symptoms include cough, fever, chills and muscle aches. In some cases, pneumonia may develop.
