DETROIT (WXYZ) — We’re learning more about the health of billionaire businessman Dan Gilbert a month after suffering a stroke. A statement says he’s been moved out of the hospital and into in-patient rehabilitation. His location has not been disclosed.

We got a look inside his new life with the help of the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan part of the Detroit Medical Center. This is a state-of-the-art facility that treats hundreds of stroke patients a year.

The wording in-patient in the statement is the key, according to Linda McKinney a Senior Physical Therapist.

She says, “He’s not safe enough to be home and to be going out for therapy. He needs intensive therapy as soon as possible and as soon as medically stable.”

We have not been told specifics about Dan Gilbert’s condition - how much he’s impaired. In-patient means still in a hospital room when not in what could be several hours of therapy.

Gilbert is not likely to be able to live day to day in this phase, McKinney says, “Getting up in the morning, getting dressed and ready for the day, being able to get in and out of the bathroom, being able to walk around the house.”

The latest equipment includes bionics and robotics to get patients back on their feet.

Gilbert is a high-profile businessman rebuilding downtown Detroit, owner of Quicken Loans and be brought the PGA golf tour back to Michigan with the Rocket Mortgage Classic set to tee off next weekend. But we haven’t seen a picture of video of Gilbert since the stroke last month.

McKinney says, he still has hope, “When you are in the public eye and you’re running a company people are like, oh I’ don’t know how he could do that. But they don’t realize, we have patients come in here and the families tell them, oh you’re never going to be able to do that again. And they come into therapy and we say, oh yeah, you’ll be able to do that again. But I see, this is my everyday.”

This is the update we’ve been given on Billionaire Businessman Dan Gilbert today:

The Gilbert family is thankful for the tremendous outpouring of support they have received.

Yesterday, Dan Gilbert was discharged from the hospital and will now continue focusing on his recovery at an in-patient rehabilitation center. The entire family is incredibly grateful for the world-class care Dan received from the entire staff of Beaumont Hospital.

Dan is looking forward to beginning an intensive rehabilitation program and is eager to continue the progress he has made over the last several weeks.
