Woman charged with second-degree murder in crash that killed 19-year-old Detroit woman

A 28-year-old woman has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the car crash that killed 19-year-old Daziah Tanae of Detroit.

On Aug. 5, Detroit police responded to the scene of a car crash at Fairport Street and Lappin Street in Detroit. It is alleged that Alyssa Marie Verbeke struck the victim's vehicle while fleeing Warren police.

According to Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy, Verbeke was allegedly under the influence of drugs. She ran away from the scene but was apprehended by Warren police.

Tanae died at the hospital.

Verbeke has also been charged with Fleeing a Police Officer, First Degree; Reckless Driving Causing Death; Operating – License Suspended, Revoked, Denied – Causing Death and Possession of a Controlled Substance Less Than 25 Grams.
