Stephanie felt like she was living life on a tether and walking on eggshells when she was in a verbally and emotionally abusive relationship.

And shortly before the murder of Tara Grant, 10 years ago Thursday in Macomb county, Stephanie, who doesn't want to use her last name, began planning to leave that seven-year relationship.

but the case that captured headlines across the nation made her realize she had to make the break if she was going to find herself again.

"I did learn he was monitoring my cell phone. He would show up at some places. When I get together with some of my girlfriends, to the point that my girlfriends backed away from me because they felt uncomfortable - because he would just appear," said Stephanie.

Critical to helping her leave the relationship was support from Turning Point in Macomb County.
