SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WXYZ) — It’s was such an amazing event today at Levey Middle School in Southfiled, where Channel 7 and TV20 participated in a Scholastic Book Fair to encourage kids to read.

Our Alicia Smith and Keenan Smith were on hand to talk with the kids.

They all got to pick out three of their favorite brand-new books and take them home to keep.

This is the first of four book fairs made possible by our "If You Give a Child a Book" campaign earlier this year.

They will provide 6,000 age appropriate books to more than 1,500 students.

Last month we helped stock libraries at 16 head start centers at Matrix Human Services totaling over 6,000 books.

One of the most generous of donations for the kids was made by the sponsor of this event, who gave $10,000 of his own money.

“I wish I could explain to you and describe the feelings,” said 411 Therapy CEO Hassan Fayad, “I wish I would have donated more than 10,000 knowing and seeing the smile and the looks on these kids right now it's speechless.”

The next book fares will be held at Becker Elementary on the 24th, Burns Elementary and West Utica are in April.
