ROCHESTER, Mich. (WXYZ) — Despite it still being August, an iconic spot in Rochester Hills is gearing up for fall.

Beginning Friday, Yates Cider Mill in Rochester Hills will be starting its first press to make the first batch of apple cider this season.

The mill has thousands of pounds of apples ready to go. They've been making cider year after year since 1876 and is one of the oldest continually running businesses in the state.

Fresh cider will be available beginning at 9 a.m., according to Yates, and people are invited to stop in for donut and cider sampling throughout the day.

On top of that, the cider mill will be hosting the Fall Harvest Kick Off Weekend on Saturday and Sunday, with pony rides, a petting farm, face painting, spin art, scavenger hunts and much more.

If you're not in the mood for cider and donuts yet, Yates also sells local jams, apple butter, sauces, honey, with pies, turnovers, cookies and pastries at the Yates Bakery, or fudge at the Yates Fudge Shop.
