(WXYZ) — A 21-year-old man was hit and injured as another night of drivers doing donuts in Detroit happened overnight.

It happened Sunday at the intersection of Joy Rd. and Livernois. A moped who had joined in allegedly hit the man.

The man's mother, who doesn't want to be identified, said they got out of the car because traffic was backed up.

"There was a guy on a moped what he was doing he was (inaudible) back and forth," she said. "He came back again he zig-zagging again all of a sudden he just fell….. just hit him and knocked him off his feet.”

She said her son is recovering from 20 stitches to his leg and his arm. She added he was unconscious and bleeding from the crash.

When they called 911, they were told it would take 45 minutes to get there because of heavy traffic. They decided not to wait and went to Henry Ford Hospital on their own.

It isn't the first time someone has been injured from the drivers getting out of control. Last month, a Detroit Public Schools Community District officer was pinned, and two people were critically injured in July.

"It really is about safety. We want to work really quickly to find a place where they can have an opportunity to drift certainly in a safe way,” Detroit Police Chief James Craig said back in January.
